Say “yes to housing” and find solutions to the growing housing crisis in Northeast Wisconsin

Northeast Wisconsin is facing a severe housing shortage

  • Recent housing studies have indicated that 4,000+ new housing units per year by 2023 are needed to meet current demand and grow our economy.
  • Currently, only a quarter of what is needed is being built.
  • Since 2017, housing prices have risen 16.5% faster than salary increases.
  • Hard working individuals like teachers, firefighters and nurses are unable to afford housing near their workplace – we call it the “Missing Middle”.
  • The cost of new home construction has nearly doubled in the last five years.
  • Approximately 80%+ of new homes constructed during this time frame were priced at $400,000 or more.
  • Low housing inventory, rising rent, and escalating home values are hindering our business community’s ability to recruit workers.
  • If Wisconsin doesn’t recruit workers from other areas, the state’s prime working age population will likely shrink by 130,000 by 2030.

It is critically important that our communities prioritize housing solutions for our workforce so that our businesses can thrive and remain competitive.
